Mission & Purpose
The Bridging for Change Foundation, Incorporated is a federal tax exempt 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization which will provide essential funding and support to survivors of domestic violence. We help them develop safety plans and empower entrepreneurs to start businesses that can enhance the local economy. Additionally, we offer scholarships for deserving HBCU students and provide resources for struggling single mothers, assisting them in achieving stability and independence to create brighter futures for themselves and their children.
Domestic Violence Awareness & Support Case Study
Survivors in the North and Northeast Greater Houston service area face a severe safety-and-housing gap. Harris County records more than 40,000 domestic-violence-related law-enforcement calls and more than 70,000 hotline calls annually, while 75% of people seeking shelter are reportedly turned away due to limited capacity. In Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Women’s Center reports 7,893 hotline calls and 3,401 emergency-shelter nights on its published impact dashboard, underscoring sustained regional demand for emergency safety, housing stabilization, counseling, advocacy, and survivor-centered case management. Single Mothers Case Study
Single-mother and single-parent households represent a significant population of concern across the North and Northeast Greater Houston service area. In Harris County, 28% of children lived in single-parent households during 2020–2024, and 23.6% of children under age 18 lived below the federal poverty line. Harris County also reported 125,790 families with children living below poverty on its demographic dashboard. These conditions underscore the need for accessible, trauma-informed services that support housing stability, economic mobility, child care, educational advancement, mental wellness, and safety for single mothers and their children.
Entrepreneurship & Growth Case Study
The North and Northeast Greater Houston region is positioned for inclusive entrepreneurial growth, yet many single mothers and economically vulnerable families remain disconnected from the capital, training, networks, and wraparound supports needed to start and sustain a business. Houston added 902 Black-owned employer businesses between 2022 and 2023—a 14.6% increase—while Texas ranks eighth nationally for women entrepreneurship. At the same time, 28% of Harris County children live in single-parent households, and the county reports 125,790 families with children living below poverty. Our entrepreneurship and growth initiative will equip single mothers and underserved aspiring entrepreneurs with business coaching, financial literacy, market-ready business planning, digital marketing skills, mentorship, and connections to capital—helping participants create sustainable income, build assets, and contribute to local economic vitality.
Education & Scholarships Case Study
Students in North and Northeast Greater Houston need equitable access to college knowledge, scholarship opportunities, and financial-aid support. In 2023, only 28% of Harris County students and 43% of Montgomery County students met SAT/ACT college-readiness benchmarks. In Harris County, 28% of children live in single-parent households, 23.6% of children live in poverty, and 125,790 families with children are below the poverty line. These conditions can limit access to college planning, paid test preparation, application support, and family guidance on financial aid. Our Education and Scholarships Initiative will provide individualized college advising, scholarship coaching, FAFSA/TASFA completion support, essay assistance, family financial-aid education, and post-enrollment follow-up. The program will help students—especially first-generation and financially vulnerable students—move from aspiration to postsecondary enrollment, persistence, credential attainment, and long-term economic mobility.
